About Henry's Toy

Henry acquired his toy - a white Chrysler Jeep Cherokee Limited almost seven years ago.  We kept it even when we were living in Singapore a few years ago, a decision that defies logics or financial reasons (especially for a bean-counter!)

To be fair, the good old Jeep has been more than a toy.  It was a personal ambulance when Edith had a nasty accident falling off her mountain bike near Lake Taupo.

Before

Another Post-Christmas Present ...

Well,  our little neighbour noticed some difference in the Jeep after Christmas 2002.

With the slightly bigger mud tyres fitted, an Old Man Emu suspension kit installed, guess what the next piece of gear has to be added to the Jeep.  Cladded in Edith's blue parka on a windy Waitangi Day, Aimee, our neighbour spotted the difference.  See if you can too.

(A snorkel has been added so that the engine doesn't get drowned when crossing rivers.)

A Few Words About Our 4WD Trips

We belong to the Wellington Cross Country Vehicle Club.  The Club organises trips under four categories:

  • Family Trips - for drivers new to 4WD; the objective is minimal challenge, minimal risk and no damage to vehicles.
  • Shiny 4x4 - more difficult family trips for shiny wagon drivers with some experience who want more challenge and don't mind minor bush marks etc on their vehicles.  Vehicles will only qualify for  Shiny 4x4 if they have mud tyres, tow hooks and all the normal required equipment per the club's safety policy.
  • Club 4x4 - modest Hard Yakka trips for drivers with short wheel base vehicles.
  • Hard Yakka - the full works, where roll-overs, damage, winching, and digging are more a probability than a possibility!
